This is several stories in one: the story of the endangered Cape Mountain Leopard, the story of the scientist (Quenton Martins) who is trying to save them, and the story of the author's attempt to see one of these rare and beautiful creatures. Justin Fox's writing evokes the beauty of both the leopard and its home, and does such a good job of conveying the urge to see one of these cats that not only did I not think it was strange that people volunteer to spend their vacation sitting in a hut listening for a signal from one of the radio transmitters Martins has affixed to his beloved leopards, I sort of want to go do that myself.
