Today, I have a book introduction guest post that doesn't just introduce a book: it introduces a series, and the first two books in that series. J.S. Marlo is here to tell us about her books Cold Sweat and Thin Ice, and the Heart & Endurance series they start.
Cold Sweat and Thin Ice
by J.S. Marlo
With my Heart & Endurance Series, I step into the world of teenage performance athletes. For years, I woke up at 5:00am every morning to drive my children to the pool or the arena. The day they turned sixteen and got their driver’s license was a turning point. More sleep for me!
Over the years, my children flew all over the world for training camps or competitions. Every trip was marked by “memorable” events, like when my daughter called me on Skype from an airport in South America during an earthquake (and I could see everything shaking in the background) or when my son lost his wallet and all his IDs the day prior to flying back home.
As their mom, I worried about what could go wrong every time they traveled with their team or on their own. Well, that’s where the inspiration for my Heart & Endurance Series comes from. What happens when “what could go wrong” goes wrong?
In Cold Sweat, the first book of the series, Hope Craig is a smart, focused, dedicated, and deaf seventeen-year-old biathlete attending a grueling training camp. Every second of every day, she pours her heart into her training and pushes her endurance to the limit. Her dream of making the Olympic team hinges on it, but little does she know, her life will too.
Hope’s kidnapping will not only test her resourcefulness and resilience, but also her mother’s strength and sanity. To rescue her daughter, Colonel Amelia Matheson will have to rely on Sheriff Richmond Morgan, a man who once hurt her. As they unravel the mysteries surrounding Hope’s disappearance, the wounds of the past will split open, more agonizing than ever.
In Thin Ice, the second book of the series, Thierry Leboeuf, an eighteen-year-old goaltender, vanishes on his way to a hockey tournament, along with his coach, as he’s ready to speak out about the drug problems plaguing his team.
As she searches for her son, Julie welcomes the assistance of her new love interest, Special Agent Lucas, but one of Lucas’ current investigations will jeopardize Julie’s chances of ever seeing her son again.
Cold Sweat and Thin Ice will transport you into the lives of these athletes and their parents where you’ll agonize over everyone’s fate.
Happy reading!
