This is a collection of steampunk short stories set in Southeast Asia, written and edited by Southeast Asian authors. It takes steampunk beyond its usual setting of pseudo-Victorian England or America, and opens it up to the wider world. Half of the fun of this collection is exploring the different worlds invented in these stories- they are interesting and well built. The other half of the fun is the stories themselves, which are generally well-plotted and well told. As fun as the stories are, they also provide some food for thought, as they explore the impact of colonialism and war, and remind us that too often, we only see this region through the eyes of the colonizers.
