I once had a friend who loved to go out to bars and party- except on New Year’s Eve and St. Patrick’s Day. He considered those “amateur nights” and argued that the bars would be full of people who didn’t know their limits and were more likely to ruin the night for the rest of us.
I have a similar feeling about Valentine’s Day. It is a day when even the amateurs express their love. I prefer to keep my Valentine’s Day celebrations to a low key exchange of cards and save the bigger romantic gestures for a day when the restaurants aren’t crowded with couples and the candy aisles aren’t full of mediocre chocolate. Luckily, I am married to an engineer who sees the logic of this as well, and agrees.
But I am not unromantic, and I love a good love story. If you do, too, here are three short sci-fi and fantasy eBooks you might enjoy:
John Scalzi’s How I Proposed to My Wife is a light-hearted comedy with a sweet tinge of romance.
Eugie Foster’s Nothing of Me is, among other things, a testament to the power of love.
Janine A. Southard’s These Convergent Stars has the most obvious romance component of my picks, but also has a fun, action-packed plot.
So, if you’re like me and prefer to keep your Valentine’s Day low key, buy your sweetie a nice card, send one of these stories to his or her eReader, and spend the evening in- and save the big night out for another time.

Based on his blog and Old Man
Based on his blog and Old Man's War, I think John Scalzi might be making his way onto my list of: I'll read anything he writes! So thanks for the recommendation. Of course, I'm willing to give most sci-fi/fantasy a try so I'm happy with this whole list!

This design is wicked! You obviously know how to keep
a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start
my own blog (well, almost...HaHa!) Great job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and
more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
